COUNTERTOPS OPTIONS IN INDIA

A countertop is a flat surface for working on, in a kitchen, bath vanities, consoles, etc.

It can get very confusing of what product to use as a countertop for first-timer in designing a space. So below are the common options and there advantages /disadvantages in India.

1) Granite (Indian/imported)

It is the most commonly used option in India for countertops. Granite is an igneous rock usually comes it predominantly black, pink, white, or grey color in Indian option and Popular Imported granite options are Blue Pearl, Black Pearl, and Splendor White.

Price: Starts from Rs 90 /sqft for Indan option and Rs 500/sqf for imported option.

Thickness: 16mm to 18 mm

Installation cost: Average around Rs 250 /sqft but may vary as per actual requirement.

Advantages:

  1. Granite is one of the hardest substances in the world and so it fully scratch proof and stain resistance.
  2. Once polished its shines for years.
  3. No or very little maintenance required.
  4. Hard to break so it adds to the strength of carcass.

Disadvantages:

  1. Lack of color options.
  2. lot variation problems
  3. Visible joints

2) Solid surface

Solid surface is a man-made material usually composed of a combination of alumina trihydrate, acrylic, epoxy or polyester resins, and pigments.some popular, solid surface brands in India are Dupoint corien ,Merino hanex, LG HI-MACS, and Samsung Staron .

Price: Starts from Rs 300 /sqft

Thickness: 3mm / 6mm /12mm

Installation cost: Average around Rs 300/sqft but may vary as per actual requirement.

Advantages:

  1. Wide color options.
  2. Invisible joints.
  3. Easily repairable crack and scratches.
  4. It is bendable so it can be used in making sinks, basins, etc.

Disadvantages:

  1. Not very strong
  2. It can easily catch scratches and stains.
  3. High on maintenance.
  4. It is not heatproof so it can get damaged especially in kitchens.

3) Quartz

Quartz is engineered from crushed quartz(crystalline mineral composed of silicon and oxygen atoms), resin and pigments. It is a very hard substance that comes in various colors and does not require any polish or sealing before use.

Price: Starts from Rs 400 /sqft

Thickness: 12mm / 15mm /18mm

Installation cost: Average around Rs 250/sqft but may vary as per actual requirement.

Advantages:

  1. Wide color options.
  2. Fully scratch-proof and stain resistance.
  3. Hard to break so it adds to the strength of carcass.

Disadvantage:

  1. Visible joints
